Mangels Ranch, which was located adjacent to the City of Fairfield’s Rockville Regional Park, had been family owned and operated for 200 years. When the Ranch was sold for development, our client (Citation Northern) needed a place to complete their mitigation requirements and the City of Fairfield was looking for a way to fund some restoration and improvement projects within Rockville Hills Park. Zentner Planning and Ecology negotiated with State and Federal agency staff to complete the mitigation for the development within the Park, which benefitted both the City and developer. We have continued to partner with the City by developing signage to encourage better understanding of these restored habitats, discussing the restoration in community television programs, and sponsoring community planting days.
GREENBRIAR: Completing early warning assessments for complex projects
The Greenbriar site had a variety of potential issues when we surveyed it for the future buyer. The project had been held up for some time due to local opposition and both Federal and State agencies had expressed serious reservations regarding the projects impacts on listed species, primarily the giant garter snake.
Small Culverts Bite
We were recently brought in to help a landowner fix a failed wetland restoration project. Despite about $500,000 in planning and construction funding, the resulting series of linked basins were notably dry three years after construction; wetland plant cover was less than 1% over the 2.3 acres of basins (measured via 20 randomly located 3m x 3m plots).
